Our external perceptions are an outcome of our internal tenets we have painstakingly developed over the years. How we react to a phenomenon or circumstance and their ensuing impacts entirely depends on our integrity of character, resoluteness of will and mental resistance to doubt or discouragement. It is believed that most successful people make the greatest progress during times of adversity, not during times of contentment.
The COVID-19 pandemic and the concurrent lockdown have been both unfortunate and fortunate for the mankind. While it has brought dread of the uncertain, it has also brought confidence that we are strong enough to survive. While it has forced us to stay indoors and practice social distancing, it has also forced us to explore our inner self and practice what we had been ignoring for years – finding our joy, harmony and the meaning of life with our family. While it has shaken the world economy, it has stirred the global community to act together and find common solutions for the human race. While it has taught us that everything in this world including life itself is impermanent, it has also taught us the true meaning of life and everything that comprises it.
What you take away from this testing situation depends on how you perceive it, what are your basic tenets and how you choose to react when you are cornered and forced to look inward to find solutions. If the purpose of humankind on Earth is to assimilate, create, manage, and live & let live, then God/Nature has offered us another chance to set whatever wrong we did in assimilating, creating, managing and living & letting to live.
I just hope this time we focus on peace; harmony; love & respect for each other, and emotions, capabilities & aspirations of all living things, rather than on fighting, winning and imposing ourselves on others – as individuals or nations.
